Pitch

Karmzah is a stylish, high-octane 2.5D action-adventure narrative set against the backdrop of an Afro-fantasy-meets-Afropunk conflict where old gods and ancient Juju collide with the cybernetic enhancements of big tech. Morowa Adjei is an archaeologist with cerebral palsy who harnesses the powers of a “disbarred” deity, Muzu, seeking redemption through her crutches. The duo battle cryptids and corporations, navigate vibrant environments and unlock rich lore that draws inspiration from authentic West African folklore, cosmology, and cultures across Africa.

Description

Morowa Adjei, a renowned archaeologist with cerebral palsy, and her crew of unfiltered, lovable specialists are hired by charismatic tech-bro Viktor Danquah, who is spearheading a dig to help uncover a sacred artefact mythologized to have the power to resurrect the dead. They get a whole lot more than they bargained for, not only finding the lost empire from which the artefact originates but awakening the orchestrator of its downfall, Zyahlé, a soul-eating priestess with an army of cryptids and an ambition of godhood, who has now set her eyes on the new world.

Luckily or unluckily for Morowa, she accidentally sets free Muzu, a deity suffering from amnesia who binds with Morowa through her crutches, transforming her into Karmzah, a warrior able to harness his divine powers and the combat abilities of the warriors before her. Muzu remembers one thing: his beef with the priestess. Now, Morowa must resolve a centuries-old magical conflict before it rips through modern Africa…

The game features an impressively robust and adaptive hack-n-slash combat system that incentivises epic combo-chaining creativity while also remaining accessible to players new to the genre. Enemies represent a full array of African cryptids with designs ranging from dignified and imposing to respectfully eerie; they’ll push players’ reflexes to the limit as they dodge, counter, strategize, and unleash awesome attacks.

Karmzah’s story journey will take players across several biomes that incorporate scenic, flowy platforming and encourage players’ exploration through hidden paths, puzzles and traps to outsmart for rewards. Based on the groundbreaking original concepts created by pivotal and iconic Ghanaian software entrepreneur and activist Farida Bedwei, this game is a bold celebration of resilience, representation, and enablement.
